What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty operations performed within Estetik International Health Group are planned with an approach that prioritizes the patient’s psychology, without sacrificing comfort during the healing process, and with the awareness that facial beauty is a whole.

Nose aesthetics, also known as Rhinoplasty, are plastic surgeries performed to reshape the nose. In these operations, the nose can be enlarged or reduced; The angle of the nose with the upper lip can be changed; The position of the tip of the nose can be changed or defects such as problems caused by any blow to the nose or innate non-aesthetic appearance can be corrected.

During rhinoplasty, rhinoplasty, the surgeon makes incisions inside the nose or on the upper skin of the nose, using different techniques, to access the cartilage and bones that support the nose. Incisions are generally tried to be made as much inside the nose as possible to make them invisible after the surgery. Depending on the desired result, some bone and cartilage may be removed or tissue may be added (either from another part of the body or using a synthetic filler). After the surgeon rearranges and reshapes the bone and cartilage, that is, after making them suitable for the structure of the nose, final arrangements are made.

If necessary, a splint can be placed on the outside of the nose to support the newly created nasal structure and assist during the healing period. The term rhinoplasty is already derived from the word “rhinoplasty”, which means “changing the shape of the nose”. The technique primarily involves accessing the bone and cartilage support of the nose. In other words, this can only be achieved through incisions made inside the nose, where we cannot see. In some cases, an incision is made in the area of skin separating the nostrils. The underlying bone and cartilage are then reduced, increased, or rearranged to form a newly shaped structure. For example, if the tip of the nose is too large, the surgeon can reduce its size by shaping the cartilage in this area.

If the bridge of the nose is high and protruding, this can be reduced or filed down to give a more pleasing profile. If any part of the nose appears disproportionately small, cartilage or soft tissue grafts may be placed to better fit the facial whole. The angles of the nose in relation to the upper lip or forehead can also be changed by further shaping the nose support structure.

The tissues are then redrawn on the new frame and the incisions are closed. A small plastic splint may be applied to the outside of the nose to minimize swelling and help maintain the new shape while the nose heals. Soft absorbent material, that is, tampons, can be used to maintain the softness of the nose along the dividing wall of the air passages called septum. Alternatively, soft nasal supports that allow nasal breathing can be placed after the operation. But all of these are fictions that vary from patient to patient and we cannot say that they can be done. Even minor correction to the nose can make a difference in overall facial harmony.
Most patients report little pain after surgery, or any discomfort is easily controlled with mild pain medications.

Who Can Have Rhinoplasty?

  • People who have health problems such as inadequate or incomplete breathing, snoring, and sleep apnea due to the internal structure of the nose.
  • Those who have aesthetic problems in their nose
  • People who have gone through puberty and have a problematic nose in terms of health or aesthetics
  • Those who lose self-confidence due to aesthetic problems in their nose
  • Those who were not satisfied with their previous rhinoplasty operation

How is Rhinoplasty Done?

As Estetik International Health Group, before nose surgery, we use digital simulation technology to show our patients how they will look after the operation, in different versions. In this way, our patients undergo the operation safely, without encountering any surprises. After clarifying the nose problem of our patients who will have nose surgery in our clinics, we plan which technique we will use.

Simple Rhinoplasty: Simple rhinoplasty is a technique performed under local anesthesia and applied in an extremely short time within Estetik International Health Group. Shaping the tip of the nose is an operation performed to lift the tip of the nose, which may fall from birth or due to gravity over time. This technique, which is applied only with a thread, without making any incisions, using tampons, plaster or similar devices, provides our patients with the most comfortable post-operative period.

Nose Aesthetics:  These are classical nose surgeries performed on the nose structure that is arched or has lost its shape as a result of an impact. The most important issue we pay attention to in nose surgeries is the age and gender of the patient. In addition, the new nose design is aimed to be suitable for the total facial contour and to be made within the framework of a plan designed specifically for the individual.

Secondary Rhinoplasty: Secondary rhinoplasty, which we can also call revision nose treatments, is an operation we perform on patients who have previously undergone nose surgery. Patients who have a collapsed nose, cannot have the nose they want, or have problems such as not being able to breathe or smell after the recovery period, can have secondary rhinoplasty.

Essentials of Nose Aesthetics

As we always say, the nose is an organ in the middle of the face that contributes to facial beauty. But we would especially like to emphasize that the skin, lips, eyes and hair are the areas that always come before the nose and must remain vibrant and fresh. For this reason, our perspective on nose aesthetics is different from most plastic surgery clinics and we believe that personalized nose designs should be made and we act with this teaching. Each patient’s facial contour and skin structure are different. Creating the same nose type for everyone is a beautiful nose, but it appears as an element that is incompatible with the face and overshadows the total beauty. The nose must be compatible with the eyes, lip structure, chin and cheekbones, and the design must be planned in the light of all these elements.

Although rhinoplasty can create significant and sometimes even surprising improvement and change for most patients; In fact, it is very important that the nasal structure is changed safely so that it does not cause new problems for the patient in the future. In this regard, in addition to anatomical issues such as skin thickness and skeletal size, those who want to have rhinoplasty; Issues such as functional limitations and long-term durability should be taken into account and planning should be made in accordance with this infrastructure. Although the patient’s wishes are very important, for example, the desire for an ultra-thin nose structure and the attempt to achieve this may lead to complications. For this reason, the requests from the patient for rhinoplasty, the anatomical structure and facial contour line should be examined in response to the patient’s request.

A reshaped nose with elegant lines and a better shape and a pleasant contour structure that matches it is possible for almost every healthy patient. For this reason, rhinoplasty must be done by looking at the entire face. The aim of rhinoplasty is to eliminate the problems and achieve a reshaped structure that is compatible with the facial contour and is not understood to be aesthetic.

Computer Imaging

Instead of complex rhinoplasty, we always consider it appropriate to plan rhinoplasty that prioritizes functionality and adapts to the whole face. At Estetik International clinics, you can also see the new nose structure created with 3D digital simulation and examine the final result of your nose after the operation thanks to computerized imaging.

Rhinoplasty Anesthesia Techniques and Hospitalization

Rhinoplasty – Rhinoplasty can be performed with general or local anesthesia. A 1-night stay at the surgery center is required. Depending on the rhinoplasty technique applied to you, this process may be longer or shorter.

After Rhinoplasty

Depending on the intervention performed in rhinoplasty, the splints and bandages around the nose will be removed within approximately one week. However, most rhinoplasty operations are now performed without using such equipment. You may feel your face swollen or experience redness and bruising around your eyes and nose for a few days. Following the recommendations of your rhinoplasty doctor, the cold compresses he may recommend will help you relieve swelling and any pain. Your doctor may also recommend painkillers, but it would be best not to do anything he does not recommend and listen to his suggestions. For the first few days after surgery, you may need to keep your head elevated and relatively still while sleeping. It may take several weeks for you to return to strenuous activities.

It is perfectly natural for you to feel swelling, bruising and pain after rhinoplasty, depending on the technique used and your body. Your problems such as edema and bruising in your nose disappear as the course progresses rapidly and day by day. You can switch to your social life after approximately 1 week. With simple rhinoplasty, it is possible to return to your social life immediately. During this period, you need to protect your nose against the harmful rays of the sun and impacts caused by external factors.

It will be easier for you to wear wide-collared clothes and wide hats. We recommend that you wear contact lenses instead of glasses and be careful when swimming in the sea or pool. After rhinoplasty, it may take up to 6 months for your new nose shape to fully settle. For this reason, we recommend that you be patient and keep your doctor informed of possible developments throughout the process in order to see the final result.

Pad and Plaster

Plasters and tampons, which allow rhinoplasty to heal in a completely healthy way, are among the issues that many patients fear the most. Today we would like to remind you that breathing is much easier with perforated tampons. Additionally, the tampons placed in your nose are removed painlessly after one or 2 days, and the plaster cast is removed after approximately 1 week.

Why Should You Get Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty can change the size, shape and angle of your nose, making it better proportional to the rest of your face. It can also correct structural problems that cause chronic congestion and breathing problems. The results of rhinoplasty will vary depending on what type of correction you want. It is important that you and your plastic surgeon agree with the purpose of the surgery. If your expectations are realistic and your plastic surgeon shares them, you will likely achieve the results you want. The answer to the question of why you should have rhinoplasty is a process that is related to you. If you have a health-related problem such as breathing problems and need to have a rhinoplasty, or if your nose does not satisfy you aesthetically and causes you anxiety, you should make your decision, meet with a plastic surgeon and experience the final result.

Rhinoplasty and Latest Trends

Every year, half a million people undergo rhinoplasty surgery to change the appearance of their nose. While some people have an unaesthetic nose when they are born, others are uncomfortable with the changes in their nose that occur with aging. Others are preferred due to reasons such as an injury, hitting their nose somewhere, and for many, lack of breathing ability. Since the nose has a central position on our face, its size and shape have a great impact on a person’s appearance, and this is an undeniable fact.

When we look at the trends in the world, while we do not have any problems with our nose, especially at a young age, our nose also gets its share from the triad of muscle, bone and fat that disappears as we get older. Especially when the tip of the nose drops when smiling, it causes great discomfort to people. For this purpose, it is possible to lift the tip of the nose with techniques aimed only at the tip of the nose or with temporary treatments such as filler and botulinum toxin.

In addition, the rise of social media, selfies, mobile phones that almost everyone has, and the constant exposure to self-viewing have enabled people to become personally acquainted with their faces, especially their noses. While they used to be able to see their noses only in mirrors from opposite angles, now they can see them from different angles with their mobile phones and feel the need to pose in accordance with their nose structures. In parallel with this issue, it is possible to count rhinoplasty among the increasing trends in recent years.

What to Expect After Surgery

After the surgery is completed, you will be monitored in the post-anesthesia area until you feel well enough for discharge. Most patients do not experience significant pain, but medications may be given if necessary for postoperative discomfort. You are likely to feel that your nasal breathing is limited in the first few days after surgery. It is caused by the condition that occurs as a result of edema inside the nose, and as this condition improves, that is, when the swelling decreases, your breathing will increase. You may feel slightly swollen, especially your face, on the first day after surgery. Some patients may experience swelling and/or bruising around the eyes.

It is essential that you follow your surgeon’s post-operative instructions. Keeping your head elevated will minimize swelling. You should protect and avoid any impact to your nose while the internal and external structures in your nose area are healing. You should avoid heavy lifting, excessive exertion, sun exposure, or activities that increase the risk of injury. You should be careful not to apply too much pressure to the bridge of the nose, so get information from your doctor about using glasses. Tape and other devices can sometimes be used to wear glasses during recovery without highlighting the area, which you can also ask your doctor about.

Follow-up and post-care are very important for success in rhinoplasty. You should immediately report any concerns about your postoperative course, such as excessive bleeding, unexpected swelling, fever, or severe pain, to your surgeon. It is very important that you make follow-up appointments with your surgeon. During the healing process, you can only get approval from your doctor for techniques such as massage, nasal sprays or small drug injections similar to cortisone, or techniques that will further improve the desired result, and ask only him/her to apply it.

Private and public insurance generally do not cover surgery for cosmetic reasons. With correct analysis, realistic patient expectations and a qualified plastic surgeon, you can achieve a result beyond your expectations.

Nose Aesthetics Types

As we keep saying, your nose is one of the most distinctive features of your face and its function is extremely important in your daily life. When you are unhappy with the appearance of your nose or have functional complications that make it difficult to breathe, you can compromise your quality of life and become unhappy. We said that nose aesthetics, that is, rhinoplasty surgery, can correct physiological complications that impair the ability to breathe. You can also achieve aesthetically satisfactory results. Here are various types of rhinoplasty rhinoplasty designed for all.

Functional Rhinoplasty

Functional rhinoplasty is a surgery that corrects physical abnormalities that prevent breathing caused by congenital defects. They can also correct the effects of physical trauma. It is done by reshaping and repositioning the nasal cartilage and nasal bones. Your plastic surgeon ensures that you can breathe and that you are satisfied with your appearance.

An “open” or “closed” procedure can be performed here. Open rhinoplasty involves incisions outside the nose, while closed rhinoplasty involves incisions only inside the nose. Surgeons will use a closed technique whenever possible to avoid visible scarring, but in cases of severe damage or in the nasal cavity where the treatment area is problematic Open rhinoplasty may be necessary when possible. They work to minimize visible scarring as much as possible.

Correction of Deviated Septum

Septum is the two passageways extending from the nasal cavity to the nostrils, connecting the upper part of the nose to the skull. It consists of several parts such as septum, cartilage and bone. Its lower part rests on the anterior nasal spine, a supporting bone you can feel at the point where your nose and the area above your upper lip meet.

A septum may have moved to one side of the nasal cavity without creating two equal paths. It causes a crooked nose and often an inability to breathe easily. In fact, this is what we call a crooked nose. When the septum is tilted to one side, it can form an S-shape or bend to resemble a C-shape. Either deviated septum can obstruct airflow and eventually damage the soft tissues in your nose. Depending on where it deviates, the surgeon may have to reshape the upper parts of the cartilage on the nose or the lower part of the cartilage.

Enlarged Turbinates

Rhinoplasty can also straighten large bones. There are three types of turbinates: the superior turbinate, which is high in the nose between the eyes; middle turbinate located in the middle of the nose; and the inferior turbinate, which ends just above the nostril.
Sometimes he corrects enlarged bones by removing tissue and reducing their size. Sometimes it is filed down, this is a process decided according to the current condition of the patient.

Nasal Polyps

Like enlarged turbinates, nasal polyps are often related to allergies and an irritated nasal cavity. These growths develop as soft, jelly-like bulbs in the nasal passages. To remove them, the surgeon will use an apparatus to reach into the nostrils and carefully remove them. Unfortunately, nasal polyps are very likely to develop, that is, to recur, and you should consider the possibility of recurrence even if they are removed during rhinoplasty.

Aesthetic Nose Surgery Types

When it comes to nose operations, which are performed only for aesthetic reasons and not for health reasons, the ultimate goal is to improve the appearance of your nose and turn it into a nose that complements your facial structure. Different techniques can be used to achieve your specific goals, that is, the image you are aiming for in terms of the nose that you told your doctor about. When a surgeon evaluates the nose, he or she will make note of three different aspects: the upper vault (also known as the bony vault), the middle vault, and the lower vault. To get the correct proportions in your final results, adjustments may be required for multiple vaults.

Correcting Radix

The radium is the upper bone part of the nose. The radium and the underlying cartilage may be large or may have collapsed due to an impact and will disturb you aesthetically. Your surgeon can reduce the shape of the base by carefully shaving the small ones. Your surgeon can also heal this area by taking cartilage tissue from another part of your body, if it is an area that has had a problem, has been hit or collapsed.

Straightening the Crooked Nose

If the nose is slightly crooked or shifted to one side, your rhinoplasty surgeon may correct this by reducing some bone or cartilage or physiologically shifting tissues. Like a broken nose that needs functional rhinoplasty, your surgeon may apply a splint to hold the nose in place while it heals.

Nasolabial Angle Adjustment

If you look at your profile, the nasolabial angle consists of two lines: from the tip of the nose to the area above the upper lips, and the upper lip is the line that branches from under the nose to the nostrils. The protrusion of the nose and the rotation of its tip affect the degree of this angle. In most cases, surgeons aim to create a 90 to 95 degree nasolabial angle in male patients and a 100 to 105 degree angle in female patients. A combination of projection and rotation adjustment techniques can refine this angle.

Ethnic Rhinoplasty

Each person has a unique aesthetic feature. While not every member of a particular race shares these characteristics, there are those who sometimes choose to undergo plastic surgery to alter them. Rhinoplasty is a popular treatment among those who have a wide nose structure due to their ethnic characteristics. Many patients of African and Asian descent consider rhinoplasty, or nose aesthetics, to reduce the width of their nostrils from one end to the other. In our Estetik International clinics, we perform many ethnic nose, that is, wide nose aesthetics, with recommendation tourism.

      FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the Prices of Rhinoplasty?

You can get information about rhinoplasty prices by calling our Estetik International clinics or call center line. The Ministry of Health has prohibited providing information about plastic surgery costs in public media.

What are the Possible Risks of Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is generally a safe surgical procedure, but as with any surgical operation, it carries some possible risks. Developing technology and our professional rhinoplasty surgeons working in our institution do their best to reduce risks and ensure patient satisfaction.

      How to Prepare for Rhinoplasty?

First of all, you meet with the surgeon who will perform your rhinoplasty operation, you are examined, and planning is made by focusing on realistic expectations. The rhinoplasty technique that suits your nose and facial contour is determined. Meanwhile, your doctor will give you information about the things you need to do and pay attention to before the operation. It is possible to reach your doctor for any questions you may have until the day determined for rhinoplasty.

I Smoke, Will It Affect My Rhinoplasty Process?

Smoking is a harmful habit that causes tissues to be deprived of oxygen. By smoking, you will both prolong your recovery process after rhinoplasty and reduce the effectiveness of the anesthesia you will receive. For this reason, you should definitely tell your doctor that you smoke and quit smoking at least 2 weeks in advance. Maybe this would be a good time to quit smoking altogether.

How Long Does the Recovery Process of Rhinoplasty Take?

Depending on the surgical technique performed on you, a tampon and plaster will be placed on your nose for the first week. In the first week after the surgery, there may be moderate swelling, mild pain and bruising around the eyes. During this period, you should pay attention to your doctor’s recommendations. After a week, you will experience a healing process that accelerates day by day.
