Basque Country - Journey of Flavor
1. DAY
27 April 2024, Istanbul / Bilbao (Saturday)
- 06:30 Completion of ticket and baggage transactions at the B Travel Tour check-in counter of Istanbul Airport international departure terminal.
- 08:55 Depart for Bilbao, in the north of Spain, with Turkish Airlines flight number TK-1315, which is dazzling with its style and energy and is the representative of a unique cultural identity.
- 11:30 After arrival, welcome at the airport and departure with our private bus.
- 13:00 Lunch will be taken at the Bistró Guggenheim Restaurant, which has a culinary style linked to its roots. After the meal, we will visit the Guggenheim Museum of Modern Art, an architectural masterpiece of Frank Gehry, covering an area of 11,000 m². Then, you will take a walking tour of Bilbao and see the City Hall, Plaza Nueva and the Cathedral. After the tour, transfer to the hotel. Free time to settle into your rooms and relax.
- 20:00 Departure from the hotel for dinner.
- 20:30 Dinner will be taken at Los Fueros, one of the most interesting restaurants in the old quarter of the city, offering typical dishes of Bilbao with its authentic character and beautiful bistro-style interior. After dinner, return to the hotel and overnight.
2. DAY
28 April 2024, Bilbao (Sunday)
- 09:30 After breakfast, we will take a walking tour of Casco Viejo, also known as the “Old Town”, on the east side of the river, the heart of the city. Narrow streets lined with Renaissance, Baroque and Modernist buildings, Santiago Cathedral, a Gothic church built in the late 14th century, San Anton Bridge and Church, and Plaza Nueva, an archaeological square, will be seen.
- 13:00 You will have lunch at a famous tapas bar, where you will have the opportunity to taste traditional “Pintxos” products of Basque cuisine and local delicacies. After dinner, return to the hotel and free time.
- 19:30 Departure from the hotel for dinner.
- 20:00 Dinner will be taken at a restaurant with a culinary style linked to its roots in the old town. After dinner, return to the hotel and overnight.
3. DAY
29 April 2024, Bilbao – La Rioja (153 km) – Laguardia (40 km) (Monday)
- 09:00 After breakfast, we will set off towards the southernmost part of the Basque country, into the countryside of mountains and farmhouses. After a journey of approximately 2 hours, we arrive in the lands of Rioja, where the internationally renowned wines of the region are produced. The entire region is covered with vineyards, from small family owned and operated businesses to large industrial producers.
- 11:00 Surrounded by charming vineyards and magnificent countryside, you will visit and wine-taste the Amaren Winery.
- 13:00 We will visit Baigorri Winery, a modern winery designed by Archichet Iñaki Aspiazu Iza. During the lunch here, you will taste rioja-style dishes served with modern touches.
- 15:30 Visit the town of Laguardia, the centerpiece of the La Rioja Alavesa wine region, surrounded by magnificent mountain views and medieval stone buildings. Walls, fortifications, towers and churches will be seen in the city, whose original layout is appreciated.
- 16:00 Return to Bilbao and transfer to the hotel.
- 20:30 Dinner will be taken at the Bassko Restaurant, on the outskirts of Bilbao town, where tradition and innovation meet, where you can enjoy traditional and freshly made dishes with great love. After dinner, return to the hotel and overnight.
4. DAY
30 April 2024, Bilbao (Getaria – San Sebastian) (108 km.) (Tuesday)
- 09:00 After breakfast, departure to San Sebastian, a tiny but beautiful and impressive Basque city on the Atlantic Ocean coast of Spain and very close to the French border in the north.
- 10:00 On the way, you will visit the magnificent fishing town of Getaria. a small one Although it is a town, Getaria is also the birthplace of famous people who made history such as Juan Sebastián Elcano and Cristobal Balenciaga. After Magellan’s death, a statue of Juan Sebastian Elcano, the first European sailor to complete the world tour, adorns the Spanish town of Getaria. There is also a surprisingly stylish museum dedicated to the famous Spanish fashion designer Cristobal Balenciaga. The town is also famous for the Basque wine Txakoli, produced in vineyards dotting the green hillsides of the entire region.
- 11:00 There will be a visit to a txakoli wine cellar in Getaria and a tasting of Txakoli white wine.
- 12:30 After arrival in San Sebastian, you will have lunch at Meson Portaletas Restaurant.
- 14:30 During the panoramic San Sebastian city tour after the meal, Concha Beach, which is considered one of the most beautiful beaches of the Atlantic Ocean, the City Hall, and the Kursaal Palace, which hosts the San Sebastian film festival, are among the places to see. Known for its Michelin star restaurants, natural beauties, historical buildings, unique architecture and food culture, the city is one of the most preferred holiday destinations for European society.
- 16:30 After the tour, return to Bilbao and transfer to the hotel. Free time for you to relax.
- 20:30 Dinner will be taken at Café Iruña Restaurant, which was founded in 1888 and is located in Plaza del Castillo in Pamplona, the historical center of the city. This legendary venue is a mandatory stop for those visiting Pamplona and wanting to learn first-hand about the experiences of author Ernest Hemingway. Café Iruña is a meeting point for the people of Pamplona with its tradition, unrivaled location, symbolic hall and large terrace. After dinner, return to the hotel and overnight.
5. DAY
01 May 2024, Bilbao / Istanbul (Wednesday)
- 11:00 After breakfast and check-out from the hotel, you will visit the Bizcaia Bridge, which is located on the Nervion river and connects the districts of Portugalete and Las Arenas. Designed by architect Alberto de Palacio and completed in 1893, the bridge is 45m high and 160m long. This bridge, which is the first bridge in the world to carry vehicles and pedestrians with a partition connected by steel ropes and moving between the two ends of the bridge, is considered one of the most impressive examples of post-Industrial Revolution architecture. In 2006, it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
- 12:00 Take a walking tour of the old port of Getxo, which blends old huts where fishermen live with the hustle and bustle of bars, accompanied by views of the Bizkaia coastline.
- 13:00 Lunch will be at Tamarises Bistrot Restaurant located in front of Ereaga Beach in Getxo. It is the perfect place to enjoy the traditional gastronomy of the Basque country.
- 14:30 Transfer to Bilbao airport.
- 15:00 Completion of ticket and baggage transactions.
- 18:15 Departure to Istanbul with Turkish Airlines flight number TK-1318.
- 23:15 Arrival in Istanbul and end of B Travel Tour services with the hope of meeting again on another trip.
